We
believe that our Labs should first and foremost be family members. As such, their Health
is of paramount importance to ensure a long life with both our family and
yours.
In
our breeding program we only use breeding stock that has been cleared by
the OVC (Ontario Veterinary College) or equivalent for Hip Dysplasia and
usually elbows (not all breeders screen for elbows yet, although we screen
all our own animals for it), as well as being cleared of genetic defects
for eyes, such as PRA, by an DAVCO (an accredited Canine Ophthalmologist),
or equivalent, on an annual basis.
Again
for their health, we feed and recommend Purina Pro Plan for all our dogs.
Pro Plan is available in many formulations and can be fed for all
the life stages of your dog. To date we have fed the following formulations:
Puppy, Large Breed Puppy, Adult Chicken & Rice, Large Breed
Adult, Lamb & Rice, Sensitive Skin & Stomach, and Weight
Management. We believe
strongly in the extensive research, food trials, and quality control
utilized by Purina to produce this premium quality food and are sure
you’ll easily find a formulation that works best for your dog, no matter
what life stage he/she is at.
Additionally,
we insure all our animals with Pet Health Insurance policies from Pet Plan
in case of emergencies or other health issues that might crop up.
In this way we can rest easy that we never have to choose a course
of treatment based solely on financial considerations.
We send our puppy buyers home with 6 weeks of complimentary initial
insurance for their puppies from Pet Plan and we strongly encourage them to
maintain this insurance on their dog for their own peace of mind.
We believe that our canine companions deserve the protection of
health insurance every bit as much as human children do.
Temperament is the second foundation of our
program. Put quite simply, a dog with a good temperament is a
“nice” dog that you can take just about anywhere (provided you’ve
trained him to be obedient!). While
our dogs are predominantly from field lines and are high spirited workers,
they are also our house dogs and faithful companions.
Our dogs have been raised with buckets of love and devotion and
they return it a thousand fold.
The third
foundation of our program is Working
Ability. Labs were
originally bred primarily for duck hunting.
In today’s modern, urban world you won’t find many
opportunities to utilize this skill though.
Our Labs come from strong working lines however, and love
retrieving.
We work our dogs in NAHRA and CKC Hunt Test disciplines to enhance their
retrieving abilities and prove their capabilities. Someday, we may branch out and even try field trials.
The most important reason for doing this, however, is because
they love it. A busy (and
exhausted) Lab
is a happy Lab and given a choice, ours would most
certainly choose a day in the field over just about any other activity.
For the hunter, these dogs make excellent hunting companions
(again, with training) and as a family pet, you’ll have a companion who
will play fetch with you long into the twilight hours.
These are
our core beliefs and values. Please
